I'm looking to take screen shots every minute or so. Utilities I have
found are designed to capture application usage to make pictures for
software manuals. Does anyone know a simple utility to just save a
snapshot regardless of user actions, either periodically with its own
timer, or just once under the control of a script for timing?

I have found this site to be very useful for many years.

I found another solution, which is that irfanview can do it, so I
neglected to reply.

But I just wanted to say that is a beautiful script.
